Managing Rounds
How to start a round, set the timing of each phase, and control the round timer.
Every round runs on a timer that moves through up to three phases: Pairing, Set-Up, and Playing.
- Pairing (team tournaments only) - Time for team captains to submit their pairings.
- Set-Up - Time for players to deploy their armies before the game clock starts.
- Playing - The game itself.
Phases run back to back: Each phase starts when the previous one ends.
Default Timings
The timings you set under Round Structure when creating a tournament are only defaults. The pop-up uses them as its starting values each time you start a round.
The system stores timings for each round. A change to the tournament defaults does not change a round that started before the change.
Starting a Round
Open the Tournament Actions menu and select Start Round [N]. Instead of starting immediately, this opens a pop-up with one row per phase. Singles tournaments do not show the Pairing row.
Each row is pre-filled from the tournament’s default timings. The first phase starts now, and every following phase starts when the one before it ends.
Click Start Round to confirm.
Duration or End Time
Each phase can be set in one of two ways. Use the toggle on the row to switch between them:
- Set by duration - Enter how long the phase should last. The row shows the time the phase will end at.
- Set by end time - Enter the time of day the phase should end. The row shows what the duration will be.
Both inputs describe the same length of time, so they always stay in sync. Switching between them only changes which one you see.
Changing a phase moves its end time, and every later phase shifts with it. This helps when the round is behind schedule. Set the end time of the last phase to the time you want the round to end. Or make one phase shorter.
If the end time is earlier than the phase start, the system uses that time on the next day. For example, 00:30 is the next day for a phase that starts at 23:50. This applies only if the next-day time is 12 hours or less after the phase start. For a later time, the system shows an error.
Timezone
Enter and read end times in the tournament timezone, which comes from its location. The pop-up reminds you with the note Times are in [timezone] at the bottom.
Validation
The round cannot be started if a phase would end up with no length.
- Set-Up and Playing must be longer than zero.
- Pairing may be zero, but not negative.
- The system rejects an end time in the past.
Fix the highlighted row and click Start Round again.
Adjusting a Round
If the schedule changes after the round starts, open the Tournament Actions menu and select Adjust Round [N]. This opens the same pop-up, pre-filled with the round’s current timings and showing end times by default. Click Adjust Round to save.
Timer Controls
Organizers see a row of controls on the tournament timer. From left to right, they are:
| Control | Action |
|---|---|
| Skip to start | Jumps back to the first phase (Pairing for team tournaments, otherwise Set-Up). |
| Previous phase | Jumps back one phase. |
| Repeat phase | Resets the timer to the beginning of the current phase. |
| Play / Pause | Pauses the timer. Resumes the timer when it is on pause. |
| Next phase | Jumps forward one phase. |
| Skip to end | Jumps to the end of the round. |
Jumping between phases and repeating a phase both ask you to confirm first. The system disables controls that do not apply. For example, you cannot skip forward after the round ends.
