Frequently asked questions about Combat Command.
A purpose-built tournament management platform for tabletop wargames. It is not a generic event tool but rather designed around the specific scoring, pairing, and list management needs of competitive wargaming.
Currently Battlefront Group’s Flames of War, 4th Ed. and Team Yankee, 2nd Ed.. Support for Battlefront’s Great War as well as additional games such as Bolt Action and DBMM are coming soon.
Both tournament organizers (TOs) and players. TOs create and manage events; players register, check in, submit lists, and view pairings and results. Combat Command also lets you check in any single match if you want to record single matches outside of competition.
The platform is currently free, supported by donations from generous community members (Thank you!). A “Pro” tier of tournaments will be launched later this year with additional features and tools such as ticket sales, discussion boards, player polls and more. The expected cost for “Pro” tournaments will be €1 per player, with “Community” tournaments remaining free with the current features.
The TO configures pairings through a drag-and-drop interface before each round. Pairings can be automatically generated according to either random (shuffled) or Swiss pairing methods. Further restrictions such as avoiding repeat matches or blue vs. blue matches are also available.
Not yet, but it’s in the works!
This depends on the game system being used. At minimum there are always score fields and a “winner” field (albeit optional if it was a draw). This data generates “ranking factors” which are used to rank and tiebreak a full leaderboard after each round.
A stats and analytics system is actively in development. It will cover outcome distributions, mission play rates, faction win rates, battle plan usage, and trend data.
Global per-game-system Elo-style rankings are under early design/consideration. Rankings will be per game system (not cross-system), with regional breakdowns as a display layer. Rating decay for inactive players is also planned.
Currently yes, at app.combatcommand.net.
A mobile app (iOS/Android) has been evaluated and is on the roadmap.
The best place to reach the Combat Command community is our Discord server. A built-in contact form is coming soon.
Combat Command is built by Ian Paschal, a software engineer and wargamer based in the Netherlands.
Combat Command is a solo passion project. If you’re enjoying the platform, the best things you can do are run your events on it, tell other TOs about it, and join the community on Discord (for now the ETC Discord). If you’d like to support development financially, you can buy me a coffee. It’s genuinely appreciated and does a lot to cover server costs, domain name, etc.
